“P.S. From Paris” by Mark Levy – Kindle Edition

P.S. From Paris was my August Kindle First selection. Amazon Prime members get access to one free book one month before it becomes available for purchase. I am glad that I read it. However, there are a few caveats.

Characters – Characters in P.S. From Paris are well-fleshed out with a few being less-so. I quickly grew fond of most characters. The banter between the main characters especially is worth the price of admission.

Content – There is nothing particularly egregious in this story. The language is tame overall, with maybe a dozen mostly mild expletives. There is no violence. There are allusions to adult relations that are not much steamier than the old film trope of having the camera pan away from a kissing couple. I like the overall wholesome feel.

Pacing – One of the major detractions from the book for me was the pacing. The beginning seemed slow. I had to fight to stay awake. The pace picked up and never wavered again once the romantic leads met one another.

Storyline – This is a romance, certainly. Some have labeled it rom-com. For me, there are comic moments, but they are the sort that made me smile wryly, rather than laugh out loud. This book was light-hearted the first 85% or more of the novel, then become melodramatic and serious in content and tone near the end.

This evolving plot is something I have seen a lot lately. It tends to feel a bit contrived– like the author is trying too hard to be clever, relevant, and socio-politically vital. This story is slightly less heavy-handed about it than others I have read lately.

It is not that I object to profound messages in books that I read– quite the opposite! It is more a matter of feeling that there is depth to be found in the simplest of stories, too. To me, it does not need switching gears to make it into something unexpected. When done with mastery, precision, and subtlety, I am sure it would make a winning story for me. I have seen it so often that I am starting to expect it beforehand.

I am also unclear how realistic the plot twist is, as it seems beyond all credulity that the publishing deception went undiscovered for years. [It is too difficult to detail this further without spoiling the plot for readers].

Writing – Marc Levy writes well. The story is often enjoyable to read. A slight problem with following the story comes down to dialogue. Mr. Levy kept a minimalistic approach to attributing lines of dialogue. It became hard to follow without reading back and making sure of the speaker. There were also several instances of a change in the scene without much fanfare. It took a minute to sort out what was happening.

RFID-Blocking Leather Women’s Wallet

This RFID Blocking Genuine Leather Women’s Wallet is cute and practical. It is seemingly ageless, as nearly everyone can use it. My young adult daughter loves it, I use it, and I am past middle age, and I can imagine seniors proudly toting it about town. Seriously, this style it has is both timeless and classical. I get an Audrey Hepburn vibe from it myself. The colors are gorgeous! It comes in black, purple and red. I bought the red, and it is beautiful.

I appreciate the roominess of this product. It holds my photo ID and other vital cards, such as my bank, credit/ debit, punch, savings and store cards. It can hold bills and change (zippered change purse). Two large zippered compartments hold at least nine single cards; then four large compartments contain cash or other items, including other cards if need be. The zippers are modern, yet retro at the same time. The wallet is custom-made; impeccably designed and stitched.

In the irony department, as I was putting together this review, I became aware of fraud against my account via a pop-up notification. Do not be deluded into thinking it could never happen to you, as it strikes people of all walks of life. It has happened to my family several times. This latest incident occurred across the country. At least I know it was not the result of the theft of my card, nor of it being scanned by thieves. After all, I have used RFID protective sleeves and wallets for many years. I have gifted them to some loved ones, too, so maybe they would not fall victim to predatory acts. Too bad a charming wallet cannot protect online identity, too.

Your RFID Women’s Wallet comes with a guarantee of full refund or replacement should you be dissatisfied.

You’re Purrfect Fur Me | Premium 11oz Coffee Cup

It Makes My Day!

This cup is adorable! I received it before Valentine’s Day, and it made the day more enjoyable no matter my relationship status. I like the message. There is no perfect person, but there can be someone who is perfect for you, nevertheless.

The mug is dishwasher and microwave safe. The cup is durable ceramic. I measured; it holds eleven ounces of your favorite beverage. I like white cups for coffee or tea, as the light color makes it easier to tell that my coffee will be to my liking. 🙂

I would buy the “Purrfect Fur Me” mug again for certain.71rUQsQ6rRL._SL1500_

“My Neighbor Totoro” Socks

~ Comfortable, stylish fun! ~

These socks are incredibly adorable! I bought them for my daughter who is a Studio Ghibli fan. The character is Totoro from “My Neighbor Totoro” fame [US movie title].

This set of three pairs of socks has blue, gray, and pink colors included.

She and I wear the same size, so I tried them out, too. The pairs are quality-made, though thin socks. These are perfect for warmer weather. I think the area of the ears at the top of the sock is excellent. The tops are not at all binding on the calf, which is a great relief to me. I have diabetes and the problems associated with it.

My daughter likes that they are fan-related and that they show her style and personality. That is a win in my book.

A tip from the company states that the socks should be washed inside out in cold water for the best results, so I have done that hoping that the socks will last a good long while. So far I have no complaints about durability. There has been no degradation that I have noticed with these from regular wear, washing, and drying.
